I am a single mother, working a full-time and a part-time job as I journey towards a bachelors degree in nursing. Most times, my schedule became very overwhelming and I only existed as I watched life pass me by. My journey in nursing school has not been an easy one. However, I can safely say that God is a keeper! He will place people in your path at the right time to guide you and to be your strength during your weakest moments. Mrs. Mukula has been that person to me. Most lectures main focus is the knowledge of the students but her focus has always been the entire student including emotional, physical and spiritual health.
She's stern but yet so gentle. On the days of assessments, I would be fine until she walks on the ward, immediately my heart starts to race, not only because of nervousness but my aim is to make her proud. Miss Shawsmith has always believed in me, especially in moments when I didn't believe in myself.
As I went through one of the toughest moments in my life she helped pulled me through. Miss Shawsmith always made herself a safe place where I can openly express feelings of vulnerability without being judged. I can recall sitting in her office for hours talking about life and its challenges. She would not only advise me but she would use her personal experiences which gave me hope that if she survived hard times then I can too.
She sees greatness in me and she nurtures it and for that I am grateful.
One day, I will walk out of nursing school not only with a degree but with confidence, integrity, and hope because I met such a phenomenal woman. The true definition of a woman with a big heart.
My prayer is for our Lord to continue to pour into you as you pour into women like me. Women who are fighting for success despite of their challenges. May he blesses everything that you put your hands to do. Your blessings will be big because your heart is!
There are no words I can say to express my gratitude but I vow to make you proud not only as nurse but as a world changer all because you believed in me.
